The Masonic Temple complex has been a Detroit landmark since it opened in 1926. Thousands of Detroiters have attended concerts here--the Metropolitan Opera to Mick Jagger to the Phantom of the Opera--in addition to Masonic meetings and events, weddings, graduations, and business- and educational-group meetings.
In spite of the Masonic's success for nearly a century--and the unique, grand architectural design of the building--economic, social, and demographic trends have affected preservation and maintenance budgets adversely.
